Window Repairs in Manchester
A window that will not open, will not close, or will not lock is a daily frustration. It lets in draughts, lets in rain, and most importantly, it is a security weak point that any opportunist can exploit. We repair windows across Greater Manchester, handling everything from broken handles and failed hinges to seized mechanisms and blown double-glazed units.
Most window problems are mechanical rather than structural. The frame and glass are usually fine; it is the handles, hinges, locking mechanisms and friction stays that wear out. These are all parts we carry in our van, which means the majority of window repairs are completed in a single visit. No call-out fee, no fix no fee, and a 12-month guarantee on all work.
What We Repair on Windows
Window handles are the component we replace most often. Espagnolette handles on uPVC windows operate the locking mechanism through a square spindle. Over time, the spindle wears, the handle becomes loose, and eventually it snaps. We fit matching replacement handles that operate your existing locking mechanism without any modification to the window itself. We stock white, chrome, gold, and black finishes to match your frames.
Friction stays, the hinged arms that hold the window open, are another common failure point. When they wear out, the window either will not stay open or will not close flush against the seal. Worn friction stays also create a security risk because the window can be forced open from outside. We replace friction stays with the correct size and stack height for your window profile.
Window locking mechanisms, also known as espagnolette gearboxes, drive the locking cams around the frame when you turn the handle. These can jam, strip, or break, leaving your window either stuck open or stuck closed. We replace the full mechanism and check that all the cams engage properly with the frame keeps to give you a tight, secure seal all the way round.
We also deal with window hinges that have seized or broken, cockspur handles on older casement windows, window restrictors for child safety, draught seals, and misted or blown double-glazed sealed units. For wooden windows, we repair sash cords, pulleys, and traditional casement fittings. Whatever the problem, give us a call and we will sort it out.
