Our Break-In Repair Process

The first priority after a burglary is making your home secure. When we arrive, we assess every point of entry and exit the intruders used. We photograph all damage for your records and for the insurance claim. If the police have not yet attended, we advise on preserving evidence and avoiding touching areas that might hold forensic material.

Next, we board up any broken windows, damaged door panels, or smashed glass. Our boarding is sturdy and weatherproof, designed to keep your property secure until permanent repairs can be carried out. For doors that have been forced open but the frame is intact, we can often fit a temporary lock to restore security within minutes.

Once the property is secured, we move on to permanent repairs. Damaged door frames are rebuilt or replaced. Splintered wooden doors are repaired with matching timber, or replaced if the damage is too severe. Snapped cylinders and forced locks are replaced with high-security anti-snap alternatives. Broken window glass is measured for replacement sealed units. Bent hinges, twisted handles and buckled letter plates are all dealt with.

We also take the opportunity to assess the rest of your home's security. Burglars often target properties because of a visible weakness, a standard euro cylinder, an unlocked side gate, or a window without a key-operated lock. Common Break-In Damage

Cylinder snapped or drilled out
Cylinder snapping is the most common method of forced entry on uPVC and composite doors. The intruder grips the exposed section of the euro cylinder with pliers or a wrench and snaps it off, then uses a screwdriver to turn the remaining mechanism. We remove the damaged cylinder, check the mechanism for internal damage, and fit a new anti-snap cylinder that is designed to resist this exact attack. The new cylinder sits flush with the door furniture, giving nothing for tools to grip.
Door frame split or cracked
Kicking a door in puts enormous force on the frame, especially around the lock keep area. Wooden frames often split along the grain where the keeps are screwed in. uPVC frames can crack or separate at the joints. We repair wooden frames by splicing in new timber and reinforcing the keep area with longer screws that go through to the structural timber behind. For uPVC frames, we replace damaged sections or reinforce with steel keep plates.
Door panel kicked through
On some doors, particularly older uPVC models with thin panels, intruders kick through the panel to reach the handle or lock inside. We replace the damaged panel with a new one that matches the existing door. For wooden doors with broken panels, we can patch or replace the panel depending on the extent of the damage. We also advise on panel upgrades that are more resistant to forced entry.
Window glass smashed
Smashed window glass is boarded up immediately to secure the property. We then measure the opening and order a replacement double-glazed sealed unit. Standard units take three to five working days to arrive. We fit the new glass, check the window operates correctly, and clean up all broken glass. For ground-floor windows that have been targeted, we can discuss laminated or toughened glass options that are harder to break through.
Lock mechanism forced or jammed
Forcing a door can damage the multi-point locking mechanism even if the intruder did not directly attack it. The hooks and rollers can be bent, the gearbox stressed, and the shootbolts jammed out of alignment. We strip the mechanism out, assess whether it can be repaired or needs full replacement, and fit new components as needed. We always test the full locking cycle multiple times before we finish.
